Toward Meaningful Rule of Law Research: An Elementary Approach

Despite its unprecedented popularity in political and developmental discourse, the rule of law is difficult creature to grasp. During the past few years many scholar have taken up the challenge of defining what the term actually means, what its should mean, or at least what its core features are or should be. Taking the stock of these efforts one must conclude that while they greatly help our understanding of the rule of law concept, none of them has yeilded a defenition acceptable to all. Rule of law definitions seem destined to vary over time, place, context and from author to author.
